Come on boys and girls... what has happened to you all? You used to be keen and full of enthusiasm for the sport, that we all love with a passion.... and yet, there is next to no feed back on this site, not even abuse or sarcasm...
I turn my back for a few years and you all seem to have given up.... I still peek in on you all from time to time and also check on some of the other forums, but the drive has gone from many of you....
and, before you start on about the politics and bulls**t that is causing the mood to fall,,, yes, i do know all about that.... but that is not what i want to talk about here and now....
It is OUR sport that is at risk here....
Each and everyone of you out there has a race car worth a million dollars.....OK, not really a million dollars, but every one of you does have a car that has every available cent that you can spare, poured into it... your car is a direct reflection of your income taking into consideration other family commitments... if you could spend more to go faster...you would...
trouble starts when you have your million dollar investment parked up in your garage collecting dust, and the most action it sees is when visitors drop by and (with beer in hand) sit in it and make brimmm brimm noises.
great if we all have a budget that allows us all to travel to every track around the country... but, sadly, that is not the case....
therefore, we rely on our local tracks...closest to home, best financial option for the local driver and the new-by still finding his way into the sport.
Which brings me to the new track... for many years there has been a select group of wowsers and nay-sayers that have preached that MMP is dead.. that a new track will never happen... that the money will never come.
Well, although they are a minority group of wannabees, with no fore site or faith in fellow man kind....they have managed over the years, with their continual whinging, to infect many good racers, with their doom and gloom attitudes.
Fact.... MMP is still alive and well, and working harder then ever to bring a world class facility to your doors.
Fact.... the land has been secured and development is well under way.
Fact....the money has been trickling in, as promised from many racers and sponsors.
The problem that is facing the organizers at this point is promoting the sport in a positive way to the public, racers and spectators. These are the people that need to be encouraged at this point...
Racers... don't sell your cars...don't park them up... don't bag your local track. Your support is needed now, more then ever.
Spectators... without you, the sport cannot move forward...come along next weekend and bring a car load of Friends with you...
The Public.... these are the future fans.. these are the people who have never been to a meeting.. who think it is made up of illegal bogon street racing...these are the future racers, who when they get the bug,[as we all did] will be the funny-car drivers of 2020[only 8 years away].
Due to the very nature of building a world class facility in a short time, and not being able to continue to hold regular events on the airstrip, the pressure is on more-so then ever.. This fundraiser event is vital to the development of this facility and it is imperative that it goes off with a bang... we only get one go at somethings and this is one of those things..
On that note, i ask that everyone put aside the politics, for the weekend,...get your cars out of mothballs,...fill your family wagons with spectators and come to Masterton for the best 2 days of petrol-head action you will see this year.
Compare what you will get for your entry money..
Go to speedway for $25 per head = 3 hours of racing... a 3 minute race with a 5 minute gap between each race...eyes full of dust and grit...chips and a hot dog on a stick with dribbly sauce.
Drags.... 7 hours of racing per day...a race every 1 minute...every race having the potential to set a new record, [track and NZ National]... full access to the pits to checkout cars, talk to drivers, get autographs...a burnout comp to the death [of the Tyre's]...a bikini comp......
So, what are you waiting for? Plan for a big weekend next week and don't let anyone talk you out of it..
Until we get the new track up and running [sooner then you think] we need to keep everyone enthused.
This WILL be the only international standard, purpose built track in the land.. don't let it slip through our fingers, for the sake of trivial attitudes...
Now... as no-one has posted much on here for a long time... i don't feel the slightest bit of guilt for taking up sooo much space...
