thanks for the info, lol ! what about gutting the car ? can you remove seats & interior if you want or is that against the rules as well ? we can strip them down if we choose too (in test n tune and most events), so i was curious about that. according to the MM website under race dates www.mastertonmotorplex.co.nz/racedates.html is the track open for test n tune or anything else ? or is that it for the year? where can i buy a good helmet ?

Rgearding the dates, yes thats it for the season at Masterton Motorplex. Reason being that its not a full time turnkey strip. Its an airport that gets turned into a dragstrip for 4 meets a year.
If you go to the MMP sites, links, you will find all the other strips around Nz. There are alot of 1/8 mile street drags (legal) arranged during the year, in Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, also up Wanganui way, Fielding also.
North Island only has one turnkey fulltime strip and thats Champion Strip at Meremere which is about 1/2 way between Auckland and Hamilton.
There are a couple of strips down south and again more 1/8 mile street stuff and another airstrip that gets tuned into a strip 2 weekends a year.
Tokoroa back up north again, is another airstrip that holds about 2 meets a year.
Taupo has a circuit track, that is having changes made and a part time drag strip added to it.
Theres a fulltime turnkey strip in the planning stages at the moment for the Lower North Island, but thats probably a year or so away now.
Helmet, any motorbike shop will do, or you can get a cheap one 2nd hand out of the Trade and Exchange or off Trade Me.
But make sure that the helmet meets the safety requirements of NZDRA and is approved before spending your money.
Heres the specs the helmet must meet to be approved
seat belts (NZSS 1662) and a helmet which meets one of the following specs and has the cert sticker affixed inside the helmet
ANSIZ-90.1 (USA) AS 1698 (Australian) BSI BS6658-85-A or A/FR (British) NZSS 5430 (New Zealand) SFI 31.1 or 31.2 (USA) SNELL SA85/SA90/SA2000?SA95/SA20 (USA) ECE 2002/03/04/05 or EEC E22 (European)
A circle with an E and a number inside is a european standard the number within the E circled indicates the approving country 1 = germany, 2 = france, 3= italy, 4= netherlands, 5 = sweden, 11 = UK

HA ! it turned out not to be a shortcut ! but we road that about 30 kms to alfredton and continued on to E town (thats what i will call it, cant spell it) ive hit another little road like this also from upper hut to waikanae. with all the twisties but going to waikanae its at least pavement (couldnt keep up with the locals). both were great rides. NZ has been great and im checking out the country in a 87 honda civic si. (great petrol saver/tourer !) i have a car coming over from the states i will probably race for fun until i can get something quick. funny thing is the car is a 97 Nissan Maxima thats good for 14.1-14.4 n/a the car could be one of the quickest grocery getters in New World parking lot.

The road through from Upper Hutt, that was the Akatarawa Road, and yes very narrow and windy and best travelled at night, so you can atleast see the on coming cars from a couple of corners away, well their headlights anyway.
Next time your out the coast way, have a look at Riversdale, its pretty nice, more of a swimming beach than castlepoint.
HaHa the little country backroads we have in Nz, yes just a tad different to the interstates and freeways you would be used to stateside. having been there a couple of times, can certainly see the comparison.
Hell the street my mate lives on in Davie, Florida is bigger and wider than out biggest highway in Nz, and its only a residential street LOL

hey there ceasar; just a top up on your first question..... there are some rules on striping out the interiors of the cars. IDRAG laid down some guide lines a couple of years back and they have become the standard as of late. Interior..cannot be have front door panels removed as this can led to driver injury in case of car upset. back seat can be removed and one head light for fresh air intake. Bonnets are to be left on and it was found that far better air flow was maintained with the bonnet/hood in place. The rule book has any other details you may need to know... cheers

the things you do to make up for a small amount of horsepower. hey, next thing you know i will be pouring some V down in the tank ! lol

yeah we can keep this one on the down low. one can of V black to a 1/4 tank of gas should knock you up a few points.

As for tipping black V into the fuel tank, I wouldn't even tip that muck down the drain, let alone in the fuel tank!!
